The story
Six-generation family farm committed to organic chicken farming since 1890
The Ahrens family has been farming near Peterborough, Ontario for six generations — over 130 years of organic agriculture on the same land. They were among the founding farms of Ontario's organic chicken movement, committing to organic practices more than 30 years ago before it was a selling point, because they believed it was simply the right way to farm.
Every bird is free-range and certified organic — raised without antibiotics, synthetic hormones, or chemical inputs of any kind. The chickens are air-chilled after processing, never water-chilled, which means no absorbed moisture, no diluted flavour, and a cleaner product from the start.
When you order chicken from Northern Raised, it comes from this farm. One family, six generations, one standard that hasn't changed.
